Adaptations Farm is a 7-acre certified organic herb farm on the Big Island of Hawaii. The farm’s owner, Tane Datta, strives to develop connections between people and earth's natural systems to improve the resilience of both. Tane cultivates many plant varieties and has been experimenting with freeze-drying instead of air-drying to better preserve the vibrancy and flavor of each ingredient. Tulsi (or Holy Basil) is native to India and has a strong tradition of use in Ayurveda. In almost every Hindu home (especially Brahmins and Vaishnavas) you will find a tulsi plant growing as it is considered the holiest plant, a threshold between heaven and earth. Functionally, Tulsi is an adaptogenic herb and can help the body cope with various emotional and physical stressors. It has an affinity for the lungs and heart, and calms and soothes the nervous system. This herb is a staple in our herbal repertoire and can be consumed daily to support general well-being.
