Issue 06 : March

IN A SENSE
A monthly composition of Sensory Inspiration
March brings feelings of anticipation and desire for the start of something new. We invite the practice of steadiness and look to the horizon for what is coming.  As light extends our days, it's time to turn our attention to the garden and seed it with our deepest wish.

Sight

Color Therapy, also known as Chromatherapy, is a remedy that utilizes light and color to treat mental and physical conditions. The use of color for healing dates back thousands of years. In ancient Greece, Egypt, and China people used to gaze at the colors of plants, crystals, and sunlight to improve mood and general wellbeing. Color can influence our behavior and perception and each color evokes a different response. Warm colors stimulate the emotional body and can boost energy and motivation. Cool colors have soothing affects and can help ease stress and anxiety.

With the whisper of spring, we've been spending time in nature and fixing our gaze on the budding green leaves, blue sky, and ocean waters. We're making our daily walks a priority to receive the added benefit of sun exposure to elevate and invigorate our mood.

Sound
Our Manager, Emily Sese, has drawn inspiration from her natural surroundings of Northern California to create another wonderful playlist. As we awaken to early spring, this soothing mix carries us into our days with quiet energy and ease.

Taste
Eggs have long been a staple in our lunch rotation providing a nutrient-rich, affordable source of protein. Always looking for ways to add variety and flavor to everyday preparations, we recently infused soft-boiled eggs with a savory tea and spice broth. This recipe for marbled eggs is easy to prepare and will elevate your simple boiled egg to an artful delight. Recipe follows.

Marbled Tea Eggs

6-12 Eggs
6T Tamari or Soy Sauce
1 Bay Leaf
1Tsp Black Peppercorn
1Tsp Coriander Seed
1 Star Anise
1/2 Cinnamon Stick
2 Tsp Sugar
2 T Golden Horse Black Tea
2 1/2 C Water

Prepare the Marinade
- In a saucepan, add all ingredients except the eggs and bring to a boil
- Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes
- Remove from heat, strain, and allow liquid to cool completely
- Once cool, pour into a quart-sized ziplock bag, or re-usable silicone bag

Prepare the Eggs
- Fill a pot with water (enough to submerge the eggs) and bring to a boil
- Turn heat to medium / low and gently add eggs
- Boil for 7 minutes for soft-boiled eggs, 10 minutes for hard-boiled eggs.
- Prepare an ice bath in a bowl.
- Submerge cooked eggs in ice bath for 2-3 minutes, then remove
- Gently crack the egg shells but do not remove. This allows for the marinade to infuse the egg without over-saturating
- Keep eggs in marinade for 24 - 48 hours before removing
- Store the eggs (in shells) in your fridge until ready to eat!
**Note - The marinating liquid can be saved and re-used. Simply store in a container in your fridge, then re-boil and cool before using again.

Touch
The dry, winter air can de-regulate the barrier function of the skin and lead to dryness, increased sensitivity, and rougher skin texture. To remedy, we've been incorporating this nourishing Mānuka Honey & Matcha Face Mask into our routine to support our skin's protective barrier layer.

Our favorite Mānuka Honey is from ACTIVIST. Their Mānuka Honey has proven to be a must in our beauty cabinet. This superpower ingredient is extremely hydrating, promotes skin regeneration, repairs cellular damage, calms inflammation and lessens the appearance of scars. When incorporated into a weekly face mask, you will see and feel the benefits immediately. And when paired with Matcha Green Tea Powder, the two ingredients are incredibly powerful. Green tea's high chlorophyll content gently detoxifies the skin while infusing it with loads of antioxidants and Vitamin C.
